Science/Light Energy

 Grade: 6

Duration: 60 mins x 2 days

Theme: Energy, Forces and Matter

Focus Question: How does light behave?

Distinguish between luminous and non-luminous objects/organisms

Read the following then complete the activities

  • Luminous objects
Emit their own light and can also reflect light from other sources. Examples include the sun, fire, candles, and electric lamps.
  • Illuminated objects
Shine due to reflected light from other objects. Examples include the moon, which reflects light from the sun.
Illuminated objects are also known as non-luminous objects. They are only visible when they are illuminated by a luminous object

Tier 3 The following are statements about luminous objects. Indicate with a tick if you agree or disagree with each statement.

Statements                                                                     Agree                         Disagree
1. Non-luminous objects cannot be seen
2. The moon is a luminous body
3. Luminous objects produce their own light
4. Firefly, star and earth emit their own light
5. Light has a dual nature

Tier 2 Use the words below to complete the blank spaces.
